In the previous article I wrote that UMNO now is actually an old, ramshackle shack which needs to be demolished and in its place a new, stronger and more accommodating structure needs to be built. To do this gigantic undertaking, an architect with very superior intellect and imagination must be tasked with the job. And also the structure can only be realised if the work force consists of young, committed and dedicated people coming from all communities in the country.
Without the above prerequisite UMNO can kiss good- bye to its future.
As it is, UMNO is still being led by a man who had been rejected by the electorate. From the immense success that he achieved in the general election of 2004, he was completely dumped in 2008. The winning touted by him as being a show of confidence by the people was completely misinterpreted by him. He never even mentioned the loss of four other states and the failure to recapture Kelantan. In other words he refuses to accept reality. He still lives in his dream world that he had been in since 2004.
On the 12th. Of February 2008, he vehemently denied that Parliament would be dissolved but on the 13th. that is the next day, a hurriedly convened press conference was held at the Prime Minister’s Department whereupon he announced the dissolution of Parliament. If this comedy act were to be staged by Malaysia’s two famous comedians, Indi Nadarajah and Allan Perera. Malaysians would have had a hearty laugh.
But this comedy was enacted by Malaysia’s Prime Minister and did he treat the dissolution of Parliaments as being a joke? Most Malaysians tended to take it that the man had been lying to the country with this nonsensical behaviour. What was on his mind when he made this uncalled for statement?
Malaysians were anxious to know what the future was going to be and here you find the country’s top most executive playing jokes with them. Is this the make-up of a very serious leader? If Malaysians wanted to watch comedy shows, there are plenty around. The acts would be successfully carried out tastefully by professional comedians.
But for a Prime Minister to play jokes on Malaysians on such a solemn topic, something was definitely wrong with him. And yet UMNO with its so many mindless leaders condone the antics of this leader of theirs. I have seen and served a few Prime Ministers and have never seen them treat Malaysians as an audience for a good laugh.
The man must be senile when he behaved like this. It is said that a man can go senile as he becomes older and also he may deteriorate even further in having the company of a new partner. He tends to forget whether he was talking to his grandchildren or whether he was talking to intelligent adults.
Nobody in the government dared to correct his conduct. Malaysia had the unfortunate state to be governed by jokers, comedians and senile leaders. However one thing that they never forget is to foster patronage, corruption and cronyism.
Another fiasco was the incident that occurred in Trengganu where the choice of the Menteri Besar almost created a government crisis. On 24th March, it was reported in the Star newspaper that the Prime Minister had said that the appointment of anyone else beside Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh as the Menteri Besar of Trengganu would be considered unconstitutional. But on the 28th. March, there was an about-turn done by the Prime Minister. He and UMNO supported the appointment of Datuk Ahmad Said as the new Menteri Besar of Trengganu. And his master’s voice, the mainstream media applauded this as being the most apt action to be taken by the Prime Minister and UMNO.
Voala! Bravo! Good Show!
That is how the mainstream media play their role. They have misled the people with their reporting and they have also misled the Prime Minister.
On a recent visit to Penang, the Prime Minister again in his amnesiac mood said that the NEP is relevant but he forgot that he had said that the NEP ended in 1990 and from 1991 it was the NDP for the Sixth Malaysia Plan. The NDP is the New Development Policy.
This is the man who still wants to lead the nation and the party UMNO. He simply does not know what he is talking about. He also said that an open tender might not be fair as this depended on the finances of the company tendering for the job.
It was all right to him I suppose when in a negotiated tender a two rinngit company could be given a multi million ringgit job. To him that was fair. What kind of intellectual thinking is that? If this is the leader of UMNO, I am not surprised that the members had become so dependent on handouts that minus that facility they panicked and started to carry out illegal demonstrations.
UMNO had been teaching its members to be forever dependent on the government. This kind of leadership has actually betrayed the Malays.
When Malaya achieved Independence, the UMNO leadership had promised that the Malays would stand as tall as the rest of the population. Help and assistance was to be temporary but politics and the desire to forever hold on to power, UMNO had made its members and some Malays to be permanently dependent on UMNO through the New Economic Policy.
This is the worst kind of betrayal the Malays had ever had.
The new Malays have awakened to this betrayal and they had shown their disgust in the recent general election.
Malaysia must get rid of this sort of black sheep political leadership.
Mukriz’s case is another classic example. As far as I know UMNO has only one constitution that also governs its Women’s wing, the Puteri wing and the Youth wing. There is no such a thing as separate constitutions whereby each wing can operate independently on its own. So to ask the Youth wing to take action against Mukriz is not possible. Only UMNO can take action against Mukriz based on the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee.
It is logical therefore for the Youth wing to just say that this was Mukriz’s private correspondence to the Prime Minister. They have no other option. If the President of the party is not knowledgeable about the various provisions in the party, then some brave person in the party has to tell him so. But unfortunately all kept quiet.
UMNO has now gone to the stage whereby the silent posture is the best in order to be safe even though this is detrimental to the party.
At one time, the Prime Minister mentioned that if Najib is the biological son of Tun Razak, he could be equated as being the political son of Tun Razak. That is a very painful joke on Tun Razak. Nobody in the present leadership can ever emulate what Tun Razak was. None have the dedication, honesty and vision of Tun Razak.
Tun Razak was never caught sleeping on the job. He never jetted overseas at every opportunity given. He was concerned with the poor in the country irrespective of colour, creed or religion.
Anybody claiming to be the political son of Tun Razak can only mean that the man is not a realist. The man must either be a dreamer or very much senile.
Malaysia needs a leadership that is serious in creating a united Malaysian nation. He must be creative and imaginative in forging unity among the people and to foster an equitable economic and social order.
