What made American Idol successful and Malaysian Idol a failure?

American Idol is without doubt one of the most popular television programs in history, achieving ratings that are intimidating to any genre of television, not just reality TV alone.

Year after year, American Idol has reigned as the most watched show on television.

American Idol produced a bonafide pop-star worth of the herculean ratings. American Idol sets ratings records, its true purpose – to launch the career of a pop super star.

Moreover, Idol Gives Back is the name of a charitable campaign as a result of a collaboration between American Idol creator Simon Fuller and British writer Richard Curtis. This is an an initiative to give back to people in poverty in both Africa and the United States. It has won the heart of all Americans.

Malaysian Idol on the other hand is a failure in Malaysian community or is it influenced by any politicians? What was the reason for Malaysian Idol being discontinued whereas all over the world the programme is creating world class singers?
