KOTA BARU: PAS believes it is just a matter of time before Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s takeover bid of the Government takes place.
“Whether it is Sept 16 or later, or any other date, PAS will support Anwar as the Pakatan Rakyat goal is similar to PAS’, which is to take over the Government,” said PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
He said this yesterday after launching a donation campaign for the “Serambi Mekah” Welfare Fund.
In KUCHING, PKR information chief Tian Chua said Pakatan Rakyat would proceed with its plans to form a new federal government as it has sufficient numbers to do so.
However, the Batu MP said the Opposition coalition first wanted an assurance that the transition of power would take place peacefully without the intervention of the police or military.
“The rakyat wants change but they don’t want to see racial tension, and they also don’t want to see people running amok and the Armed Forces coming in,” he told reporters after attending a ceremony organised by Sarawak PKR to mark Malaysia Day at Padang Merdeka yesterday.
In _BUTTERWORTH, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he believed in Anwar’s claim that more than 31 Barisan National MPs would cross over to Pakatan.
Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, said it was just a matter of time before Pakatan took over the Federal Government.
Commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s challenge to Anwar to name the MPs, Lim said he would leave it to Anwar to respond.
“I believe in Anwar or else why would DAP campaign for him? It does not matter when the MPs will cross over,” he told newsmen last night after attending a candlelight vigil to protest against the detention of two people under the Internal Security Act.
