KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 6. 2008) : The DAP today condemned Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s (BN-Pasir Salak) disrespectful remark, calling another Opposition member M. Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat) a " b*****d" and "bloody b*****d" yesterday.
Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur) said although Tajuddin had withdrawn his remark, as instructed by Deputy Speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, his act was unacceptable.
"Clearly, he had used a very offensive term. The four-letter word will be used in one of these days and withdrawn. How can we allow such contempt to the parliament and to allow the proceeding to take place?
"I call on the Prime Minister to take serious attention as whether he is going to allow his MPs to behave in such a bullish, uncouth and disgraceful manner," Lim told a reporters at the lobby today.
Lim said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi must take action against Tajuddin to ensure such behaviour is not repeated as it is not only an insult to the Ipoh Barat MP, but all MPs, the Indian community and all Malaysians.
Tajuddin claimed he made the remarkwhen he was provoked by Kulasegaran who told him the Indian community in Pasir Salak hate him and did not vote for him.
Kulasegaran, who also present at the press conference, said he felt very regrettable with Tajuddin for using such words.
"When debating, we can agree and disagree and there is no reason to use such offensive and demeaning word and I am surprised that he (Tajuddin) was a Universiti Malaya graduate as his remark was much uncalled for.
"And far worse than that, he said ‘let’s go and fight outside the House’. We are MPs and we fight and argue in the House on matters intellectually. I will agree and disagree with many people. The other MPs are in the same situation.
"So, why should there be a fist blow and literally fighting it out? I really do not understand why he could lose his cool while I had been asking him to keep his cool," he added.
Meanwhile, earlier before the start of the debates on 2009 Budget at the committee stage, Karpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor) raised a point of order in the House, calling for action to be taken against Tajuddin.
"The word b*****d is worse than an unparliamentary word. It cannot simply be retracted like that. What should be done is for Tajuddin to apologise or be taken disciplinary action which is by referring him to the Privileges Committee," he said, asking for a ruling from Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
However, Pandikar Amin said the matter has been settled by Wan Junaidi and all MPs should have learnt from what had happened on the previous day. He then asked for the Dewan Rakyat secretary to proceed with the next agenda of the meeting.
