While Royalties understand the need to tolerate and live peacefully , some quarter from UMNO seems to undervalue it. The call by Mukhiz Mahathir for One School System in Malaysia by abolishing Vernacular system merely an attempt to secure his party Youth Chief position scheduled to be held on March 2009.
Probably if such remarks comes from non-umno member the person would end up in Kamunting within days.
What proof he has that Vernacular system education damaged Malaysian harmony ? Malaysian had accepted Bahasa Malaysia as medium of communication which been language of harmony for more that 51 years. Even then racial harmony and integration been tarnished by political ploys of those ruled the country.
He cann’t make comparison with our down south neighbour’s Education system as they promote four official languanges and made complusory mother tongue as second language in Schools. The primary official languange is English which is not mother tongue of any major races residing there. Will they accept this in Malaysia?
Further, the call for abolishment of Vernacular system undermine the right of all Malaysian under Federal Consitution and agreement reached by our fore fathers prior Independence. Mukhiz indication shows that if they cann’t tolerate something, they rather destroy it.
He should put forward ways to improve mutually agreed system instead trying to be HERO among his party members.
I hope current country leaders would take proper action against him for causing disharmony among Malaysian and avoid going after bloggers or journalist for writing about it. Let’s see how Nationalist there are now?
