SAPP: Datuk Mukhriz's statement blaming vernacular schools for polarization not true

Kota Kinabalu (Dec 2, 2008): SAPP Youth vehemently objects to Datuk Mukhriz’s suggestions that the existing vernacular schools are to be blamed for causing the polarized society in Malaysia.

"We urge Datuk Mukhriz to be honest to himself and admit that the real problem lies in the politicians in the current communal based political party system found within Barisan Nasional coalition," said Edward Dagul, who is Sapp's Youth leader.

"These BN policy makers racial ideologies has meant that UMNO champions only Malay causes, MCA for the Chinese community and MIC for Indians." he added.

"When our society sees this as the ruling coalition’s formula for national integration, then this concept of compartmentalization is accepted and adopted as being the norm (standard). That’s why no one will speak up for another Malaysian if not of the same race. The idea of “better left to someone of their own kind” will seep in. This results in further polarization.

"We are disappointed that Mukhriz has decided to adopt this stand. It is nothing more than an exercise in garnering more support in his bid for UMNO Youth head post.

"He should instead talk more of Bangsa Malaysia, Wawasan 2020 as advocated by past premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad instead of harping on racially sensitive issues.

"The country’s success story lies in its diversity in culture and the mutual respect shown for one another," said Edward.
