The DAP Youth today made a police report against Umno and its Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin for organising what it said was an illegal gathering at the Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil field, here, last Monday.
The report was lodged by DAP Youth vice-chairman Wong Kah Woh, who is also Canning assemblyman, at 10.50am at the Ipoh district police headquarters.
Wong said that based on media reports, Khairy's speech at the gathering was clearly to encourage force to be used against former Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
"I was shocked to learn that Umno and Khairy were allowed to hold the gathering at an open place without police intervention.
"Khairy's speech was aimed at causing violence and public disorder," he claimed when met by reporters at the compound of the district police headquarters.
He said the police should be fair in this matter by taking action against any quarters regardless of the political party they belonged to, to prove that they were the "police for the people".
"We urge the police to act on our report and take appropriate action against the offenders," he said.
