Anwar wants Perak Assembly dissolved

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the Perak state assembly to be dissolved because the current situation is getting out of hand.

He said that Pakatan Rakyat wants voters to decide who they want to lead the state.

“When there is stalemate, in the past we will go back to the people for a fresh mandate. This is a normal democratic process. Otherwise we will have gangsters who can block entry to the Parliament,” he said.

He said that the three branches of government — the legislature, judiciary and the executive — were now being manipulated for certain parties.

“I want stress here that what we are seeing with the situation in Perak is as a test of our system of governance. In regards to the responsibility of the government servants, are they going to be lackeys or tools used by Umno or are they going to govern justly,” he said.

Anwar also questioned why the Perak Speaker was barred from entering his own office and said that the emergency meeting held under the tree was legal.

“Datuk Seri Nizar’s position is contentious because they recognise the other Menteri Besar. But the Speaker’s position is not contentious, why do you bar the speaker from entering his premises?” he asked.
