KUALA LUMPUR: DAP chairman Karpal Singh today scolded fellow Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leader Datuk Seri Hadi Awang for publicly embarrassing the alliance with his talks of a unity government with archrival Umno.
Speaking to The Malaysian Insider from Penang, the no-nonsense Karpal bluntly said the PAS president was fast becoming an “embarrasment” to the fledgling coalition.
He noted Hadi’s recent claims that both DAP and PKR had agreed to let the Islamist party continue its talks with the main ruling party over Malay/ Muslim matters, which are top of the party’s list on the national agenda.
“All that is not true. And something untrue is embarrassing, isn’t it?” Karpal said over the telephone.
“He owes us all an apology. He has no business to say that DAP and PKR agreed when we didn’t,” he added.
The bellicose chairman of DAP also pointed out that Hadi’s own team-mate, Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, the spiritual adviser and soul of PAS, had publicly disagreed with his thoughts for a sit-down with Umno.
Karpal advised Hadi to consult his partners before shooting his mouth on his own ideas in future.
“He must not only think of one side,” the outspoken lawyer said, in a softer tone.
