PAS claims victory

Rohaizat Othman (BN) - 5,059
Mohd Salleh Man (PAS) - 9,616
Mohd Salleh wins by majority of 4,557 votes.

Sahar Shuib, Rohaizat's personal assistant said that the BN candidate concedes defeat and has congratulated Mohd Salleh.

He adds that Rohaizat is determined to make amends in the future.

In the March 2008 general election, Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abd Rahman from PAS obtained 11,004 votes to beat Ahmad Shahar Shuib of the BN by a majority of 5,433 votes.

07:00pm: PAS claims that Mohd Salleh Man has so far received 8,524 votes while BN's Rohaizat Othman has 4,063 votes. EC has yet to make any announcement on the counting of votes thus far.

06:45pm: PAS is claiming victory based on its own exit polls at the voting centres while Barisan remains hopeful of an upset.

05:00pm: Polling ends, results expected about 8pm. Final voter turnout is 73.1%, with 14,832 people casting their votes.

04:30pm: EC says voter turnout as at 4pm is 70.5% - 14,300 people have cast their votes.

04:25pm: Last-minute voters rush to Permatang Pasir to cast their votes, causing massive crawl at main junctions in the town.

03:30pm: EC announces that as at 3pm, some 65% or 13,172 people have voted.

01:40pm: Massive traffic jam from Bukit Mertajam to Kubang Semang polling centre.

01:31pm: PKR assemblyman Sim Tze Tzin lodged a police report following SMSes directing voters to collect RM100 from him after casting their votes.

01:00pm: EC reports that some minor clashes had occurred at Kubang Semang, Indera Muda, Bkt Jelutong and Kg. Pelet between BN and Opposition supporters. Police have situation under control

12:30pm: EC says 9,573 voters or 47% of the total voters had cast their ballots in Permatang Pasir as of noon.

11:45am: Voter turn-out as of 11am is 38.9%.

10:13am: Some minor disturbance at the Sri Penanti polling centre but police brings situation under control.

09:45am: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and some state Barisan Nasional leaders are on the way visiting seven other polling stations.

09:42am: EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yusof says voter turnout as of 9.30am is 14%. Advises voters to come out early due to rainy season
