A man legalised child marriages, shamelessly proclaimed ‘developed state’, sexist remarks on Teo Nie Ching & Elizabeth Wong & has no moral & integrity

Ali Rustam’s fixation on sex is an anti-climax

Written by Mariam Mokhtar, Malaysia Chronicle

On the last leg of the Tenang campaign trail, Ali Rustam tried to shore support for Umno by appealing to the Malay voters in the Felda settlements, and talk about his favourite subject which was sex.

Ali’s sexist remarks about Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching and Selangor exco Elizabeth Wong just shows that this man, who calls himself a Chief Minister, has simply no morals and is bankrupt of ideas to promote his party. He simply lacks integrity.

This is the man who legalised child marriages in his state. He might as well as have put an advert in every travel magazine saying that “Paedophiles wanted for marriage, no parental consent necessary, state will give blessing”.

This is also the man who shamelessly proclaimed himself the Chief Minister of a ‘developed state’ and spent hundreds of thousands, if not millions on a joint ceremony conducted with the Prime minister Najib Abdul Razak in Kuala Lumpur.

Within a few days, Ali had mud on his face when the body which regulates ‘developed status’ states around the world, The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development denied they had approved the declaration.

If that was not enough, Ali's pet project, the multi million ringgit tourist attraction, the monorail along the banks of the Malacca river, a puny stretch of only 1.6 km of track, had to get stuck and derail Ali’s attempts to look good.

Then to add insult to injury, the damn train had to malfunction on the first day of its launch. This only succeeded in adding more egg on Ali’s face.

The train was working on and off, but mostly off, for about one month before it staggered to a humiliating halt just yards short of a station.

The people including amused tourists in it, had to be plucked out by a specially commissioned skylift.

What a perfect advert for Malacca in Tourism Malaysia. The tales could be classified under ‘unexpected surprises’.

Then in another daft idea, Ali said that he would get a replacement train from Europe instead of continuing the services of the current train manufacturer from China.

One wonders how much in fees and commission that he and his cronies would have benefited from the China deal and one supposes, that he will expect from the newly proposed European deal. Ali is famous for throwing more good money after bad.

But before that happens, one assumes that Ali and his senior officials would have to visit Europe to check the suitability of the various train manufacturers and to see which companies are best equipped to service him and his cronies. Perhaps those with the most extravagant entertainment budgets will win the contracts.

Spring is coming to Europe and it would be nice to conduct the trip and possibly do a tour on the side, to Disneyland Paris.

Ali Rustam cheapens politics when he talks about issues that have little relevance to the elections in Tenang. He owes the two ladies, Teo and Wong, and PAS an apology for his crass and sexist remarks.

Who can fault him though? As there are no policies in BN or Umno with which to propel the country forward, there is nothing for him to discuss with the electorate.

One still does not know if BN politicians like him, have an opinion about minimum wage, how to create employment for our young, how to improve the standards in education or even in living standards, green issues, empowering women or ways to beat corruption.

Thus, as he is bankrupt of ideas and worthwhile topics of how to re-energise our economy and make politics appealing, he finds it easier to make sexist and derogatory comments about women politicians.

Fancy attacking PAS and saying that it had lost its Islamic sense of direction.

It was BN which instructed MCA’s Chua Soi Lek to condemn PAS candidate Normala for sticking to her faith and not have physical contact with men through hand shakes.

Umno kept in the shadows and only came out in the open to defend Normala’s actions after the Umno/MCA hatched plan went awry.

Therefore it is Ali and his party who have lost their Islamic sense of direction. They made handshaking a religious and political issue.

And that is not all. Guess who Ali’s team member for these last minute ceramahs is? He is Felda chaiman, Isa Samad who was charged with corruption years earlier and got suspended from his party. Even the corruptible former Prime minister Mahathir Mohamad did not have kind words about him.

Obviously such bedfellows are good enough for Ali and Najib.
