If Bersih is a PR backed rally, so what?

June 27, 2011, from R Shan, via e-mail

Reading through the many online pro and anti government portals, I realise that everyone wants to justify their positions for their own purported padres. I fail to understand what is so wrong for Bersih to be backed by PR and why all the justification by PR? Naturally the Umno machinery will run loose to safeguard their interest, and is this so difficult to understand?

The desire of the people should be one that it does not matter whether PR backs Bersih, but what is the objective of Bersih. As it is, it seems all kosher for a fair and free elections.

Now, if PR gets its people to march on July 9, fair and well as they do represent the public as much as Perkasa and Umno youth representing Umno
and its toothless alliances.

Both politically inclined groups may run the agenda, but don’t you think it is for us the people i.e. the fencesitters to take part rather than sit idle and comment in the online media with a pro and con Umno stance.

Let’s not break our head and psychoanalyse the objectives of Umno or PR and their political games but more so what we individually in a collective basis know that our voices should be heard in participation rather the semua tahu comments.

Hindraf did not rise because it had political support. Did anybody from both the Umno and PR factions even flinch an eyelid until the people’s force grew. It arose solely from the grassroots, to protect basic humanity out of necessity for the state of the marginalised and discriminated Malaysian Indians.

The whole hogwash of Bersih justifying if PR is backing them is not an issue if they are clear in their vision as anything against Umno and its alliances to maintain its status quo is a taboo topic for the public.

If Umno runs an agenda to claim that Bersih is a PR intiatitave, so be it. Bersih or stupid PR does not need to keep asserting to the public as so be it for the public is aware that anything against Umno is the cardinal truth for how they have managed it for their own elite mandores.

Should we be supporting Bersih? Sure we should, but not because you are in support of PR’s glory hunting or Umno’s defiance, but how we can contribute to the betterment of those downtrodden segments of society purely for sake of humanity.
