The Attorney-General's Chambers will not appeal against the sentence meted out against the Datuk T trio for screening a sex-video clip at Carcosa Seri Negara on March 21.
In a text message to Malaysiakini, AG's Chambers trial and appeals division head Kamaludin Md Said said there will be no appeal filed.
The sentence against the trio were heavily criticised by the opposition and observers as being too light and the trial was abused by various individuals to tarnish Anwar Ibrahim.
Today is the final day for the prosecution to file the appeal against the fine imposed on the 'Datuk T' trio by the magistrate's court two weeks ago.
Last month the three - comprising businessperson Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim - were fined a total of RM5,500.
The trio pleaded guilty, with Shuib and Shazryl being charged for screening the clip and Rahim for abetting them.
Kamaluddin told said on Tuesday that they have yet to receive instructions.
Some legal experts had decried the screening of the video clip in court, despite the trio pleading guilty, as an attempt to tarnish Anwar's reputation.
The fact sheet on the three pleading guilty also said the man in the video looked like Anwar, following forensic tests conducted by local and foreign experts.
However, the Permatang Pauh MP has strongly denied that the implication, pointing out that this was part of the ruling Barisan Nasional campaign against him.
Parties are given 14 days to file a notice of appeal against the court sentence in criminal cases.
