Federal Government, be serious about Illegals

LAHAD DATU : Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is saddened and disappointed that no concerete steps being taken by Federal government in addressing illegal immigrants problem.

Kassim Sulaiman, SAPP Zone Silam Chairman, was commenting on the recent episodes in Lahad Datu and Kunak whereby a police team being mobbed by a group of suspected illegal immigrants at fish market and two smallholders were hacked to death by illegal immigrants at their plantation.

"SAPP has made numerous memoranda to the Federal Government and submissions of petition on 'Mother of all threats' in 2001 and Eight-Points proposal to the Prime Minister in 2006." added Kassim.

"Our members of Parliament together with other Sabah Members of Parliament have also repeatedly raised the matter to the attention of Federal Government.

"Unfortunately, not enough has been done by the Federal Government and the problem of PTI (illegal immigrants) in Sabah still persists.

"Federal government must be serious about this, as security of the Sabah and its people is under the jurisdiction of Federal government. The PTI is becoming aggressive towards the government and showing disrespect towards the Law and order of the State.

"Their presence in Sabah is a threat to our national security and sovereignity. If the security cannot fight against the PTI, what chance do the ordinary people of Sabah has? Also, PTIs' presence is rapidly changing the economic, social and cultural and political landscape of Sabah. If not effectively curbed, Sabah, in the end will loose out to the PTIs.
