Taib Mahmud's nephew has broken his 'blood ties' with uncle and thrown his support for Sarawak PKR's Baru Bian.
KUALA LUMPUR: A rebellious relative of Chief Minister Taib Mahmud has spewed venom over the airwaves claiming that ‘only development’ Taib worked on in Sarawak was ‘for his own family.’
Azizan Manan, 29, is Taib’s nephew. In an exclusive interview with Radio Free Sarawak, Azizan said “as long as he (Taib) rules in Sarawak there will be no change.”
“There will be no development for Sarawak, the only development is for his own family and his cronies,” said Azizan.
Azizan’s outburst comes at a crucial time for Taib who is facing an emboldened opposition in the run-up to state elections fixed for April 16.
Yesterday, it was revealed that a secret poll conducted by Taib’s own Information Department had cast doubts on his political future.
The poll revealed that Taib’s Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) party will lose ‘at least 14 seats’.
PBB is the leader party in Sarawak Barisan Nasional coalition.
Its partner Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) is poised to lose 10-12 seats as per the poll while Dayak allies Parti Rakyat Sarawak and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) are likely to lose one each.
Support for PKR
Squaring off with Taib and company is the Sarawak Pakatan Rakyat coalition of DAP, PKR and PAS and local Dayak partner Sarawak Nasional Party (Snap).
Snap however appears to be in a seat tussle with PKR.
Meanwhile Azizan threw his support fully behind Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian.
“Baru Bian is a charismatic leader, who is sincere and fights for the people of Sarawak. I recommend him.
“Give him the chance to win the election,” Azizan was heard saying over the Radio Free Sarawak airwaves yesterday.
Azizan’s declaration of support for Bian is is seen as a boost for PKR in Sarawak.
He said his decision to speak out against his uncle had resulted in him being ‘labelled as the enemy within’ by his family.
“I’m labelled as the enemy within; let me betray my family but let me not betray my race, religion and country, ” he said.
He urged Sarawak voters not to be “fooled” by Sarawak BN and said that Taib should “step down” before he loses and is “shamed.”
Despite slamming his uncle Taib, who helms Sarawak BN, Azizan maintained that he was loyal to the federal government and federal-level Barisan Nasional.
Azizan interview wit DJ Jaban will be available to listeners today on SW 15420Khz at 18.00 – 20.00 and available for download on www.radiofreesarawak.org
