The tiny 15 Indian poor families of the Kg Padang Indian Village in Padang Serai, Kedah are demanding permanent land titles for their houses in return for votes from UMNO/BN and PR as was reported in the front pages of today’s Makkal Osai (4/10/11) is spot on. This is about the most evident recent ripple effect of the awakening created by the 25th November 2007 Hindraf Rally which broke the Indian fear factor of the racist, facist and supremacist UMNO government of One Malay-sia.

We have seen many firsts of the ripple effects of the awareness created by the 25th November 2007 Hindraf Rally. And as the general elections are approaching today we took note of the ordinary Indian poor who on their own and independently demanded no less than permanent land titles for their Kg Padang Indian Village in return for their votes in the forthcoming general elections which is expected anytime from now to March 2011. Bravo!

Gone are the days when both UMNO/BN or Pakatan Rakyat can get away by dishing out rice packets, sarong, cheap sarees, hampers or “padam” (movie/wayang kulit) empty promises and perceptions etc especially in the Tamil dailies and media a la NTV7 feel good announcements.
The Indian poor have got it spot on, if not having hit the bull’s eye in making this permanent land titles demand. This is just the first step in their thousand mile journey after having got over the fear factor @ “critical mass defection” by the awakening created with the 25th November 2007 Hindraf Rally.

This would expand to rise and to have a spillover effect by the Indian poor nationwide demanding permanent land titles for the remaining hundreds of Indian poor villages when thousands of others have already been socially ‘ethnically cleansed” by the racist UMNO Federal and state governments and also by the Pakatan state governments of Kedah, Penang and Selangor.

And thereafter the Indian poor on their very own and independently will now accelerate in making strenuous demands for permanent land titles for all Indian poor villages, all Hindu temples, all Hindu cemeteries and all 523 Tamil schools being the only remaining Indian symbols in Malaysia, all in one go, as opposed to the kosong wayang kulit one by one and piecemeal basis of mere empty promises of “land here and land there” political rhetoric by both sides of political divide. This is so that there is a permanent solution to this long outstanding problem and for a final halt in the social “ethnic cleansing” of the aforesaid remaining Indian symbols in this country.

To this effect we call upon the UMNO led Malay-sian government just as they are formulating a new Kampung Baru Bill/ Act 2011 to preserve the prime land cum significant symbol of the Malay muslim enclave in the heart of the city of Kuala Lumpur, to also forthwith pass the Preservation of Indian Villages, Hindu Temples, Hindu Cemeteries and Tamil School Bill/Act 2011 to give effect to the preservation of the aforesaid Hindu symbols.
Knowing UMNO’s racist, fascist and supremacist track record we also ask the “multiracial” Pakatan Rakyat, who are usually quiet as a mouse on Indian issues, to forthwith table this Preservation of Indian Villages, Hindu Temples, Hindu Cemeteries & Tamil Schools Bill/Act 2011 by way of a Private Members Bill. This would be the clearest ever manifestation of intention of the Pakatan Rakyat government in intending to seriously address the very basic and fundamental rights of the Indian poor when they get to Putrajaya.
