KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Some Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders’ actions have affected the coalition’s image, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek claimed today.

The MCA president said that while Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been doing his best to engage with Malaysians, “one or two” BN leaders have tarnished BN’s popularity among voters.

“Sadly, it has been perceived that one or two BN leaders are aloof, arrogant, and abusive...they project themselves as a big brother but they are bullies.

“Some are also known to be loose cannons, they get into the headlines for the wrong reasons,” Dr Chua (picture) said today during his presidential address at the MCA annual general assembly.

The MCA president did not state explicitly which BN leaders he was referring to.

“For the sake of stability in BN, the MCA has not responded in a way it perhaps should,” Dr Chua added.

The MCA boss said these BN leaders should not be allowed to make negative remarks and, if left unchecked, their actions could heighten “people’s anger” towards the BN government.

“They seem to have been afflicted with the four diseases you (Najib) have diagnosed: delusion, amnesia, inertia and arrogance,” said Dr Chua.

When asked later which BN leaders he was referring to, Dr Chua simply said: “Siapa makan cili dia terasa pedas (whoever I am referring to will know what I am talking about)”.

MCA suffered its worst defeat in the last general election, losing 25 of the 40 federal and 59 of the 90 state seats it contested in.
