KUALA LUMPUR: The swearing-in of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Dewan Rakyat has been expedited so that he would not be able to accuse the government of a conspiracy to prevent him from forming the government by Sept 16 when he fails to do so, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.
He said Anwar should be given all the opportunities to take his place in the Dewan Rakyat and then be proven to have misled the public when he was unable to muster enough support to form a government as promised by him and his Pakatan Rakyat coalition members before his Malaysia Day deadline.
“I wanted to checkmate him. Let’s see how many of them (MPs) switch to the other side,” he told The Edge Financial Daily in parliament yesterday.
Nazri said he had asked the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, to speed up Anwar’s swearing-in. “Let the public see for themselves what Anwar can do in parliament with his coalition partners. I do not think they have enough support to form a government,” he said.
Pandikar Amin said Anwar would be sworn in today after the Dewan Rakyat convened at 10am.
