Anwar gets democracy award

SHAH ALAM: Malaysia’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (picture) has been conferred the International Association of Political Consultants (IAPC) Democracy Award for his “consistent efforts in restoring democracy and the rule of law to Malaysia.”

Anwar joins a distinguished panel of past winners including Myanmar’s

Aung San Suu Kyi, Zimbabwe’s Morgan Tsvangirai of Zimbabwe and Nelson Mandela of South Africa.

“The award is not meant for me personally but for my family, the Pakatan, the NGOs and the many others who have clamoured for change and reform in Malaysia” said Anwar.

The IAPC is a professional group of political experts dedicated to fostering democracy throughout the world with one of the main activities being an annual conference where their 100-plus members from around the world exchange ideas about the political process.
