Relocation of Kuala Ketil Hindu cemetery settled amicably

ALOR SETAR, Dec 23 — The issue on the relocation of a Hindu cemetery at the site for the construction of the Insaniah University College campus at Ladang Batu Pekaka, Kuala Ketil, near here, is considered settled.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said the matter was settled after the government held discussions with family members and the cemetery committee.

He said more than 100 graves had been relocated and work on the campus would continue and was expected to complete by 2012.

“The case is settled. We have also briefed the Hindu Sangam association and they understand,” he told reporters here today.

He said each family was given RM3,000 to relocate the grave of their loved one to a new site about four kilometres away.

The government had also allotted a piece of land, covering about one hectare, for the construction of a community hall for the Indian community there, he added.

In another development, Azizan said the privatisation of the state water supply by Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada) would be carried out next month.

He said Sada was now in the process of offering staff of the Water Supply Department to either work with the company or take up the voluntary separation scheme.

“The chief executive officer of the company has also been appointed and will be announced later,” he added.

On the new water rate, he said, it would be determined by the new management.
