PETALING JAYA, May 29 — Perkasa’s Datuk Ibrahim Ali is the worst example of Malaysian politics, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said.
The PKR defacto leader accused the Perkasa president of trying to pit Muslims and Christians against one another by the latter’s call to wage a holy war against Christians. Ibrahim’s actions, according to Anwar was done at the behest of Umno.
“Ibrahim Ali (picture) represents the worst you can think of in Malaysian politics, and is supported by Umno.
“The problem is the system we have right now tolerates and uses people like Ibrahim Ali,” Anwar said during a dialogue with young professionals here today.
Ibrahim threatened Christians nationwide during a rally in Gombak recently with a crusade or holy war should they proceed with their purported agenda to usurp Islam.
His allegations were based on a controversial newspaper report in Utusan Malaysia entitled “Kristian Agama Rasmi?” (Christianity the official religion?) in which it was alleged that DAP leaders and Christian priests were conspiring to take over Putrajaya, abolish Islam as the religion of the federation and install a Christian prime minister.
The report was based entirely on unsubstantiated blog posts by two pro-Umno bloggers, one of whom is currently under investigation by police. The second blogger has since deleted the entire contents of his blog.
Christian leaders and DAP members have denied the reports. Utusan Malaysia’s Christian conspiracy report is presently under police investigation.
“Ignore these jokers,” Anwar added, in reference to Ibrahim.
