BN smokescreen to keep Datuk T and Christian state probes under wraps

Written by Maclean Patrick, Malaysia Chronicle

After 54 years of rule, the BN government has sadly become experts at hiding real agendas behind smokescreens, deploying without impunity the tactic that ‘out sight is out of mind’.

As the government mobilizes its mainstream media to demonize the Bersih rally, two pending issues have been quietly shoved under the mat.

The investigation into the Datuk-T sex-tape and the Christian state controversies have quietly slipped out of the public eye without a proper conclusion.

Shielding Datuk T and the Christian row instigators

Investigations into the Datuk-T sex tape seems to have faltered at the authentication process. To date, the only 'facts' that the police have released is that the tape is authentic, which really does not say much other than to tell us that it is a tape and not a bucket or a chair or a car.

And while investigations were still under way, copies of the video somehow made their way onto pro-UMNO websites and even Youtube. The Datuk T trio have maintained their stance that they only had one copy and they passed that to the police. They insisted they had no part in releasing the tape into the wild world of cyberspace.

The state of this sex video investigation seems to have gone into limbo. Malaysians can already sense another BN cop-out. No conclusive action has or will be taken against any party by the courts. Whether or not the file has been passed to the Attorney General is immaterial.

The fact is Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, Perkasa treasuer Shuaib Lazim and former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik are too closely connected to UMNO bigwigs like Mahathir Mohamad and Najib himself. What say you they will be protected rather than jailed for breaking the country's anti-porn laws?

No way Utusan, Perkasa should be allowed to get away with it

The Attorney General knows that even if a case is built on this tape, only the people who distributed the tape can be prosecuted in a court of law. Actors and actresses in the movie cannot be charged since no crime has been committed other than a crime of embarassing oneself.

So in typical fashion, the AG has obediently decided not to decide on a course of action and allow this embarrassing incident to fade away.

But why should the nation let him or Datuk T or the dalangs (masterminds) behind Datuk T get away with it? Did they not tarnish the image of the country, not to mention the political opposition and its leader Anwar Ibrahim? Did not its ill-conceived propaganda insult the senstivities of the religious in the country or corrupt the minds of the nation's youth?

The same can be said about the Christian Prime Minister and Christian state row, set loose by Utusan Malaysia and two UMNO bloggers. Perkasa and Ibrahim Ali got into the act by lodging police reports and making the by-now famous call to jihad or holy war against the Christians.

The police assured us that all angles would be looked into, with statements taken from all those involved. Yet till now, there has not been any conclusion to these sad chapters in Malaysian history.

Thus, it can be concluded that since the police have not released their findings and the AG has not taken any action, the issues were lies propagated by Utusan at the direction and instruction of the UMNO leadership to stir up racial tensions and communal anger from the Malay grassroots.

Another point to note, the AG cannot risk bringing either case to court as they would implicate Najib Razak himself, since Utusan Malaysia is owned by UMNO and he is the UMNO president.

UMNO shenanigans must never be forgotten so that Malaysians can learn their lesson

So again, the AG decides to sweep these under the rug and hope that the citizens of Malaysia forget these sorry UMNO shenanigans to dig votes from the Malays.

But we should never forget these incidents since they insult the intelligence of all peace-loving Malaysians. It gives a picture of a government that is so desperate to hold onto power that it is willing to lie to its people. And rather than apologize for mistakes - the leaders lie even more.

With the current brouhaha over the Bersih rally, which has now sparked two other rallies on the same day, Malaysia is caught at an intersection created by politicians who are scared stiff at the prospect that the people can and want to choose to speak for themselves.

Bersih is sincere in what it wants - free and fair elections. The UMNO Youth rally is a knee-jerk reply to Bersih’s agenda. Perkasa is trying to throw its weight but if it is not careful, it can cause really serious racial trouble.

So far, the only ones to have politicized the Bersih rally are UMNO and Perkasa. Again, another irresponsible smokescreen to hide their desperate need to scare the people into submitting to their will.

But let’s not be fooled any longer.
