'With or without me, PR will occupy Putrajaya' - Anwar

Pakatan Rakyat's bid to take control of the Federal government at the next general election.

Speaking to more than 4,000 PKR leaders and members at the party's "General Election Convention" held at Shah Alam Convention Centre yesterday, the Opposition Leader responded to comments tying PR's fate with his own future amid the ongoing efforts to jail him on sodomy charges.

"We will, insha Allah, win the general election. Some say that the worst case scenario is Anwar going to jail.. I say Anwar goes to jail, but we win.

"Here's one best case scenario. Anwar does not go to jail, and we win," he told an elated audience.

Saying UMNO was doubling efforts to create rifts among PKR, PAS and DAP, Anwar urged party members to prepare for any eventual "dirty tactics" from UMNO.

"Ensure our ties with PAS and DAP are strong. Najib (Razak) is still plotting ways to drive us apart. Just like the colonisers, they use the divide and rule policy. We must be careful," said Anwar.

He said among the "dirty tactics" was an attempt to 'buy' certain opposition leaders.

"When election looms, prices go up. Not prices of goods, but the price of traitors. They are on the lookout. If not senior leaders, then state leaders. If not state leaders, division leaders. If not, then branch leaders. Failing which, they will settle for a leader who is not selected as a candidate," added Anwar, urging PKR to "be prepared to face the traitor".

Anwar also said the coalition would have won the 2008 general election "if not for abuses and dirty tactics from UMNO-BN".
