PETALING JAYA (Aug 21, 2008): Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's lawyer have issued a letter of demand to Housing and Local Government 's deputy minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin on Aug 20 over an alleged libelous article in a chinese newspaper.
According to Parti Keadilan Rakyat media coordinator Ginie Lim, Anwar's lawyer S.N Nair sent the notice by fax at 5.15pm yesterday.
Hamzah is alleged to have on Aug 19, uttered and caused to be published in the Kwong Wah Jit Poh chinese newspaper, an article captioned "Anwar Harrassed My Wife".
According to the notice, the article contained defamatory words and Anwar wants an undertaking from Hamzah not to repeat the words and has also instructed his lawyers to demand for RM10 million in damages for the injury caused to his reputation.
He is also demanding for an immediate and unequivocal public retraction of the words from Kwong Wah Jit Poh newspaper and removal of all the offending and defamatory comments, as well as an apology to be published in newspapers.
