If ex-IGP is worried about crime in Malaysia, what about common people?

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, responding to former IGP Musa Hassan's statement, says the country's public security level is at a worrying stage.

PETALING JAYA:  If a former Inspector-General of Police is worried about the soaring crime, then what about the common people? asked PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
She said this at a press conference at the party headquarters here today.
Also present was PKR’s Investment and Trade Bureau chairman Wong Chen.
Former IGP Musa Hassan was reported to have said that the government was hiding facts from the public over the country’s crime rate.
He also claimed that the public security level had reached a “worrying stage”.
“If the ex-IGP is worried, what about ordinary citizens like you and I?” asked Wan Azizah.
The former Permatang Pauh MP also took a swipe at the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) for trying to divert the public’s attention from the real issue at hand.
“Pemandu said that only 0.75% of the budget allocated under the Government Tranformation Plan [GTP] was spent to manage public perception of fear of crime. They chose to nitpick one item in the terminology, in this case public relations, to deflect the real problem,” said Wan Azizah
Yesterday, Pemandu’s anti-crime department director Eugene said that only 0.75% of GTP funds was used on public relations for its crime-fighting initiative.
Wan Azizah said that a lion’s share of the budget allocated under the National Key Results Area (NKRA) for crime reduction was spent on managing public perception on the fear of crime instead of combating crime.
“But the people demand action on crime and not perception management. Can Pemandu and the government address the real concerns instead?” she asked.
