After the Mohd Saiful saga, PKR says in future it will be very careful in selecting staff to work with the party.

SEBERANG JAYA: PKR has learnt an invaluable lesson from the Anwar Ibrahim sodomy case. It’s deputy president Azmin Ali said in future they will be extra careful in selecting staff and election candidates .

“We must be extra careful now … we have learnt a good lesson,” Azmin, the Gombak MP, told a press conference here last night.

He acknowledged that although Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan only worked with Anwar and was not involved in party matters, the whole saga had affected the party.

However, he said the party shall not only need to be watchful on new staff recruitment, but also in screening and choosing the right candidates for next general election.

He indicated that the party’s credibility is being questioned because Bayan Baru MP Zahrain Md Hashim, Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng and Padang Serai MP N Gobalakrishnan left the party.

In the next election, he assured that PKR would choose candidates of high public esteem and integrity, loyal, trustworthy and with a good track record.

“We can promise this to the people,” he said, adding that half of the candidates would be new faces.

Azmin also praised Kuala Lumpur High Court Judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah for having the courage to deliver a verdict to free Anwar.

“Public perception has always been that our judiciary was not independent. But the judge was brave to give an independent verdict based on our evidence and testimonies from credible witnesses.

“Its a good beginning to completely free our judiciary from the executive control.Truth has prevailed,” said Azmin.

Insisting that Anwar should not have been charged in the first place, Azmin said his leader and family were forced to go through the legal ordeal and emotional suffering due to Umno/BN gutter politics.

On the possibility of the prosecution appealing against Anwar’s acquittal within the next fortnight, he revealed that Anwar would hold discussions with his legal team .

Anwar will be away to India and Turkey for next five days. He will return on Jan 14 to attend and deliver a keynote address at the Pakatan National Convention in Alor Star.
