Hindraf joins hands with ABU to oust Umno

Sharing the same goal to oust Umno from Putrajaya, Hindraf Makkal Sakthi has joined hand with the ‘Asalkan Bukan Umno’ (Anything But Umno, ABU) movement and called for all anti-establishment forces to unite come the next general election.

NONESpeaking in Kuala Lumpur with ABU co-founder Haris Ibrahim (right in photo) today, Hindraf national coordinator W Sambulingam (left in photo) said the NGO’s chairperson P Waythamoorthy has agreed to work with the ABU movement for the sake of the rakyat.

“Waythamoorthy had a series of talks with ABU leaders in London, and finally agreed to join them,” he said.
The first joint campaign they will be holding is a series of 11 ceramahs in six states – Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Penang, Johor and Perak.

To kick off the campaign, Sambulingam, Haris and Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) chairperson Badrul Hisham Shaharin, or better known as Chegubard, will be speaking in Shah Alam, Selangor this Saturday.

PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu is also scheduled to speak in the ceramah.

Sambulingam said it is important to unite all the anti-establishment forces in order to kick Umno out of power and save the rakyat.

Citing the example of the last general election, he said the unity of all forces, including Hindraf, blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin and the opposition, contributed to the political tsunami in 2008.
Haris said that the ABU movement will do its best to make sure Umno and BN fall in the next general election.

However, he added that ABU is not planning to field any candidate to contest in the election.

‘Good people in BN welcome to join us’

Haris hoped the media can help to convey the message of ‘ABU’ to the people.

He said 200,000 copies of VCDs had also been distributed in the peninsula to provide alternative information to the people.

“It is a one hour and forty-four minute documentary on how BN lies to us,” he said.

Haris, who had resigned as Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM) president over Raja Petra’s interview with the New Straits Times (NST) earlier this month, also said the ABU movement can work with Pakatan as long as the latter was pro-rakyat.

“We also welcome the good men and women in BN to join us,” he said.

As for the Human Rights Party (HRP), he said ABU has not had the opportunity to talk to HRP leader P Uthayakumar but he believes both parties can work together to ensure the fall of Umno.
