Karpal to AG: Don’t appeal Anwar’s acquittal

January 14, 2012

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 14 — DAP Chairman Karpal Singh wants the Attorney-General (AG) not to appeal the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s acquittal of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The lead counsel for Anwar in the just concluded sodomy trial said that “the mother of all trials” took three years to complete and should be put to rest for the sake of all involved, Bernama Online reported.

He was speaking to media during the Pongal festival at his home here.

A former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari, accused Anwar of sodomising him in 2008. This was the second time Anwar was prosecuted for sodomy. On January 9, the High Court here ruled in favour of Anwar.

Karpal (picture) said as much as Mohd Saiful’s father Azlan Mohd Lazim can ask the AG to appeal the decision, he in his capacity as defence counsel request the case is not appealed.

He said that that the country need to move on and that Anwar and family should not be harassed on this matter anymore.
