Raja Petra Kamaruddin has not provided any proof to substantiate his claim of being “90 percent” sure that Anwar Ibrahim was indeed the man in the sex video produced by the Datuk T trio.
In a statement today, PKR vice-president N Surendran said Raja Petra appeared to have ignored the fact that there were many elements of conspiracy at play.
Other than the involvement of former Umno vice-president Rahim Thamby Chik, Surendran said, police had allowed the video to be widely distributed, only taking action against the Datuk T trio after substantial public pressure.
“Tens of thousands of copies of the pornographic video were freely distributed all over the country, while the police sat by and took no action against the porn peddlers.
“After months of public pressure, the Datuk T trio were charged with a minor offence, while the A-G’s Chambers took advantage of the proceedings to slander and attack Anwar’s reputation,” he said.
Surendran asked if Raja Petra had forgotten his own allegations of police and prosecution bias used to silence opposition figures.
“Further, he provides not the slightest basis or evidence for his extraordinary claim that he is ’90 percent’ certain that it is Anwar in the sex video” he added.
Yesterday, Berita Minggu, New Sunday Times and Mingguan Malaysia – the weekend edition of Utusan Malaysia – published an extensive interview with Raja Petra.
Speaking to the three dailies in Singapore recently, Raja Petra claimed that Anwar was unfit to be prime minister because he had failed to administer his party and PKR-held Selangor properly.
He also said that if he was asked if Anwar was a homosexual, he would reply: “Maybe”.
